How Mila Smart Semeshkina Is Changing The Education Landscape

With years of practical and theoretical learnings, Mila is on a mission to make education more accessible

Founder online education platform of Lectera and Fast Education Mila Smart Semeshkina aims to make education more accessible and relevant in a world that is constantly changing. Based between Dubai, Miami and Moscow, Mila’s passion has always been in communicating and bridging the gap with others.

“My career path was rather challenging. I grew up in the Russian provinces and knew from an early age that I wanted to work with foreign languages and communicate with people,” Mila says. “Obviously, at that moment I had no idea how my life would turn out, and I dreamt of becoming a translator. Yet fate decreed otherwise.”

Growing up with the dream of becoming a translator, the entrepreneur was met with harsh realities when she had to take on the financial burden for her family at the age of 24.

“My career began quite early. From the age of 17, I have worked in marketing and event management,” she tells Bazaar Arabia. “Furthermore, I wrote my master’s and graduate dissertations and taught my university course at the same time. Eventually, I realised that traditional education has little to do with real success. “

However, Mila’s silver lining was realising that she wanted to dedicate her career to helping others find and reach their maximum potential in theirs, noting the importance of “self-realisation.” With the world going digital as a result of the pandemic, it was the perfect opportunity to act on this calling.

As with most businesses, Mila faced the challenge of finding a USP for her online platforms to combat the oversupply of digital education. Lectera stands out from the rest because the content is made in house and offered in 15 different languages – a feature that is very important to Mila, “I firmly believe that online education should be available to everyone,” she notes. As COVID-19 grossly impacted the job market, Mila decided to reduce the prices of the courses and make some available for free.

Despite the demands of starting a new business without investors, Mila is also the president of the Women’s Empowerment Council, an international committee that helps women find business opportunities.

“Empowering women is a very important topic for me. In the past year, I have encountered many strong and smart women who do not just do business, but also do it for the good, Mila says. “Each of them faced a situation that left them no other choice but to succeed. In the world, there are many injustices against women. Even though in practice I have seen that we tend to generate results better than men. Women are more diligent and attentive. We act much more selflessly when we have something to fight for. The Council assists women across the globe in gaining equal business opportunities. We help ambitious women find mentors, investments, and grow their businesses.”

On breaking barriers and staying on top of all of her commitments, Mila notes that, “if you understand what you are doing and why, maintaining a rhythm is easy.”
